Commentary by Joachim Åkesson, Sales Director, Ace Well Technology.
In a recent report published by Rystad Energy, it was predicted that low-carbon investments could rise by $60 billion in 2023. The article noted a potential rise in funding for geothermal, Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), hydrogen, hydropower, offshore and onshore wind projects.
With this predicted growth in low-carbon activity, we are well placed to support the demands of operators looking to grow over the coming years. Though the unrivalled holding force of our simple and effective range of technologies, our products can be deployed on wells of any kind with the same installation methods. From oil and gas wells to carbon capture activity and geothermal, a successful well needs a strong foundation. We help to deliver that requirement.
Ace Well Technology can help overcome geothermal challenges
Those operating in the sector will be aware of the various challenges and complexities regarding the drilling and completion of geothermal wells.
From the demands of deep drilling and managing high pressure and temperature, to the challenges of designing and implementing proper well completions, there are several deliverables that must be met to ensure efficient operations.
A large part of this centres on successful geothermal well construction and follow-up completion activity. Of course, to maximize operations, ultimately delivering successful outcomes, the required activity demands versatile and flexible products that focus on both performance and sustainability.
At the core of our operations is our Ace Ratchet Collar (ARC), which underpins our entire suite of products. The ARC acts as the perfect foundation for creating innovative and effective solutions, while delivering unrivalled holding force. It is fully independent of weight, grade and thread, making it extremely versatile in its application. This was important for us, and we designed the ARC with this required versatility in mind, making it suitable for both close and non-close tolerance operations.
For geothermal well construction, our products ensure the casing string is centralized, meaning well integrity can be maintained. With a centralized casing string, cementing processes are optimized and downhole barriers are effectively established.
With reliable holding capabilities in challenging environments, even at greater depths, our technology is ideally suited to geothermal activity.
Looking to the future
Geothermal energy has been providing clean, reliable and sustainable energy for many years, and we widely welcome the expected growth and investment in the sector. However, I would argue that to fully realize its potential, ongoing technical innovation is crucial. Advances in technology can open up new geothermal resources, increase efficiency, and drive down costs, making it more accessible and attractive to a wider range of customers.
Maximizing our current energy infrastructure and developing new solutions in an ever-evolving sector is of utmost importance. Achieving this calls for innovative thinking and a relentless focus on enhancing cost efficiency, streamlining processes and minimizing risk.
As the demand for renewable energy sources continues to grow, the importance of delivering solutions that meet the geothermal market’s demands cannot be overstated. With innovation at our core, we are driven to challenge the status quo, continuously looking for ways to evolve our technology to better address the needs of our customers. This does not apply just to our products but also the way we produce and deliver the solutions in our portfolio.
As the energy landscape evolves, so must the solutions that are available within it. Driven by a mission to use innovation to solve technical and operational challenges, we are continuing to shape the way we participate in the global energy transition. Our approach to geothermal is centred around supporting market requirements, and we look forward to working together with our customers to help grow the sector over the coming years.
