The Ace Custom Carrier - a cost effective and flexible vehicle for your downhole jewellery

The Ace Custom Carrier is one of the most flexible downhole tools on the market. As the name implies, it can be customized to whatever needs the operator has.

By Lasse Benjamin Jokela, Sales Engineer, Ace Well Technology

The Ace Custom Carrier (ACC) has a single purpose: To house and transport sensors, gauges, monitors and other third-party equipment safely into the wellbore so they can do their jobs. Anchored to the outside of the pipe with our Ace Ratchet Collar, the ACC will stay in place due to the unprecedented holding force of the ARC. The unit can be affixed anywhere on the pipe due to the slip-on design and can be installed onshore or offshore. In case a double dose of holding force is necessary, the unit can be fixed with an ARC on either end.

A true shapeshifter

The purpose is clear, but apart from that, the ACC is a true shapeshifter. Based on your specific requirements, the ACC is easily customisable and can change shape, size and profile according to your needs. Need a slim profile due to wellbore restrictions? Or specific recesses, mounting holes or clamps to hold non-standard accessories? Or do you require certain alloy for demanding downhole environments?

As a downhole tool specialist, Ace can modify designs according to customer requirements, and with impressive speed. We can typically design and produce the required number of carriers in the specified alloy within 2-3 months, compared to lead times of up to a year elsewhere in the industry.  These innovations drive efficiency, reduce carbon footprints, and pave the way for sustainable practices that align seamlessly with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.

Special alloys available

The ACC is popular with vendors providing completion solutions, especially related to monitoring, artifice lift such as gas lift or electric submergible pumps (ESPs), for chemical injection purposes and other casing and liner applications. It can also be an anchoring point for equipment around safety valves, packers and below the tubing hanger. For splice carrier needs, we recommend our dedicated Ace Splice Carrier (ASC).

When it comes to special alloys, it is interesting to highlight the possibilities we have:

  • Our regular 4140 steel alloy, suitable for the widest range of downhole conditions

  • 13CR alloy for higher corrosion resistance, especially in environments with H2S gas. Has a good balance between hardness and toughness

  • 925 nickel alloy for increased tensile strength and hardness

  • 25CR Super duplex stainless steel for the best corrosion resistance in demanding environments, with high tensile and yield strength

Cost effective

Cost is always a consideration when considering completion options. Ace’s downhole tools are always the cost-effective option. There is no need for a sub, and our tools are space saving compared to subs or mandrels. As the unit can be installed onshore or offshore, installation time is short and efficient. Installation is done with the ARC installation tool, which can be used by your own personnel after a short online training course.

Add to that the fast design and customisation times we just outlined, and the ACC becomes even more attractive cost-wise.
